Eggs & bacon: Perhaps the best Mother's Day gift in the world!

65% of all Mother's Day purchases are flowers
Yes, it's true. At 65.1%, flowers are the most frequently bought gift for Mother's Day. Followed by food gifts such as chocolates (48.2%), gastronomy (34.9%) and event vouchers (23.4%). However, if you consider that only 31.5% of people buy a physical gift at all, things look very different. Because then only one in five (20.5%) give flowers to their mom.
If that was your plan too, I have to disappoint you: Because your gift is not what your mother wants!
What mothers really want from their children
In reality, of course, Mother's Day is just a massively inflated marketing machine that saw the light of day over 100 years ago (in 1923) and has been the fifth season for florists and the greetings card industry ever since. But according to a survey by Statista, all this money-spending is completely pointless and misses the point of what mothers really want.
Doing something with the family... and without arguing!
The survey, which was conducted with 324 mothers, revealed that almost half of all mothers (46%) want to do something with the family. 33% want good weather (ok, we have no influence on that, sorry Ma) and 27.2% want to spend the day without arguing.
One in four mothers, on the other hand, tends towards culinary delights: 25.3% would like the family to set the breakfast table and 24.1% would like to be spoiled with good food and drink. So, dear children, if you want to give your mother a really good present for Mother's Day, spoil her in the morning with a delicious portion of eggs and bacon, bread rolls and orange juice!

How to make mothers happy in other countries
Statistics show us what mothers in Germany want most often. However, these wishes are not particularly creative. So it's worth taking a look at other countries where activities and experiences are more common as gifts and where we can learn a thing or two from.
Mexico - A musical start to the day
In Mexico, Mother's Day often begins with a so-called "serenata", a loving musical serenade. Early in the morning, family members gather in front of the mother's window or door and surprise her with singing and guitar music. The emotional value of this personal serenade is priceless for Mexican mothers.
France - Baking together connects
In France, Mother's Day is often spent together in the kitchen. Children, regardless of age, traditionally bake a heart-shaped cake for their mother. The important thing is that it's not about baking the best cake, but about the shared experience and the joy of giving something homemade as a gift.
Japan - showing appreciation and gratitude
Japanese families attach great importance to respect and gratitude. On Mother's Day, children express their appreciation through personal gestures, such as letters, poems or short speeches that they have written especially for their mother. Taking time for each other to talk openly about feelings and gratitude is particularly valuable here.
Sweden - Picnic and time together outdoors
In Sweden, families often spend Mother's Day in the great outdoors. A picnic together in the park, a hike or a relaxing day at the lake are at the top of many Swedish mothers' wish lists. The main aim is to enjoy time together in a relaxed way without the distractions of everyday life.

Why time together is the best gift
Spending time together is not only good for you, it also keeps you young and healthy. According to an article by the hkk, regular social contact strengthens the immune system and reduces stress, which has a positive effect on health and life expectancy.
So spending time together on Mother's Day is not only emotionally valuable, but also promotes your mother's health.
And that's probably the best gift of all!
